Al-Shabaka Live Tweeting Russell Tribunal on Palestine

Al-Shabaka will be live tweeting The Russell Tribunal on Palestine from November 5-7 at @AlShabaka.

From November 5-7, The Russell Tribunal on Palestine--an international people's tribunal created in response to the international community's inaction with respect to Israel's recognised violations of international law--will be convening in Cape Town, South Africa. The Tribunal will be considering whether Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people fits the international legal definitions of the crime of apartheid.

Al-Shabaka, the Palestinian Policy Network, is pleased to announce its resource network of nearly 50 policy advisors -- scholars, professionals, and activists -- from the Middle East, the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Al-Shabaka was launched in April 2010 as the first independent, global, policy-related Palestinian organization. It is an Internet-based, transnational think tank -- crossing borders to draw on and benefit from the diverse experiences of Palestinians around the world.

Statement in Support of Ameer Makhoul

Ameer Makhoul, General Director of The Union of Arab Community Based Associations in Israel (ITTIJAH), the Head of the Popular Committee for the Protection of Political Freedoms, and an Al-Shabaka policy advisor, was arrested by the Israeli Security Agency (Shabak) from his home at 3am this morning. Initial reports indicate that Mr. Makhoul was arrested by 16 Shabak agents and Israeli police in front of his wife and daughters, and that personal belongings, including computers and mobile phones were seized.

Al-Shabaka, which means "The Network," is the first independent strategy and policy-related think tank for Palestinians and by Palestinians. A think tank without borders or walls, Al-Shabaka draws on and benefits from the diverse experiences of Palestinians from around the world.
